How to Improve Efficiency in Multi-Order Processing?

Context: 

Multi-order processing method (Picking and Sorting).

For Mr. Mailfert, the company’s director, the main challenge when launching this drive-through service was achieving a high level of productivity regardless of the pickers’ experience while also reducing workplace strain.

Challenges faces:

  • Limited productivity during product picking ;
  • Long training period for new hires (around 3 weeks) due to the need to memorize routes and locations ;
  • High workload: long routes for operators, backtracking, and time-consuming searches.

Optimizing Order Picking and Sorting

Deployment of Our Picking and Sorting Software:

The Go-to-Light solution integrates Pickeos’ “Picking and Sorting” concept, allowing multiple orders to be grouped into a single picking route (called Picking) before being sent to a dedicated station for order sorting. This solution was specifically configured for Leclerc Drive in collaboration with the retailer’s usual IT provider to optimize the number of orders, pre-sorting, and collection areas. As a result, operator walking distances are significantly reduced, and productivity increases.

 

Implementation of LED Light Guidance:

The Pick-to-Light LED system helps operators save time by instantly identifying which products to pick, in what quantity, and for which sorting task. Pickeos leverages LED functionalities such as color, flickering, and blinking to enhance efficiency. Thanks to this system, training time is shortened, and workers experience less fatigue when searching for products.

 

Optimized Sorting Station:

Sorting productivity is enhanced through LED guidance and motion detection systems, as well as voice-controlled assistance developed by Pickeos. Despite the additional sorting step, overall productivity is doubled. The workstation and software ergonomics were designed in collaboration with the client to reduce strain on workers and improve ease of use.

The LED system is highly effective and beneficial: it illuminates only the products to be picked, significantly reducing the operator's reliance on scanning. We found both the hardware and software to be extremely efficient in boosting picking productivity.
